HARROGATE, Tn. - The Emmanuel College women's volleyball team kicked off their season on Friday with back to back wins at the Lincoln Memorial University volleyball tournament.
The Lady Lions wasted no time in their first match of the season, making quick work of Mars Hill University. After opening up with a strong .364 hitting percentage in the first set, the Lions cruised to an easy 3-0 victory. Junior Jenna Woodruff led the Lions both offensively and defensively with 9 kills and 18 digs. Senior Mia McKensey followed closely behind with 8 kills and 5 blocks. Emmanuel won 25-22, 25-17, 25-22.
In their evening match, the Lions faced off against tournament host Lincoln Memorial University. The Lions path to victory didn't come so easy as they exchanged points with the Railsplitters deep into the first set. The Lions were unable to stop LMU from closing out set number one, 29-27. With their first dropped set of the season out of the way, the Lions were able to rally back with a 25-18 win in set number two. Emmanuel carried that momentum into the next set for their most dominant set of the night, 25-13. With a successful system in place, the Lions closed out the match in the fourth set, 25-19. Sophomore Taylor Roberts led the team with a career high 10 kills. Mia McKensey assisted with 7 blocks.
The Lions will continue action tomorrow at 1:00pm when they take on Carson-Newman University.
