De Blanck's 18 kills Not Enough To Defeat Augusta University

AUGUSTA, Ga. - Women's volleyball fell in four sets to Augusta University on Tuesday night. The Lions put up 54 kills and 73 digs, but couldn't outscore the Jags with final scores of 25-23, 18-25, 17-25, 20-25.

Both teams played a consistent side-out game early in the first set before the Lions began to breakaway. After a kill from Junior Mia McKensey followed by an attack error from the Jags, the Lions found themselves with their biggest lead of the night at 22-18. Senior Julie de Blanck would follow up with 3 consecutive kills to close out the first set.

Emmanuel would struggle through sets three and four, tallying 9 more errors than Augusta. After dropping both sets, Emmanuel was face to face with a crucial set number four.

Unlike any of the previous sets, the Lions held a lead early on. Midway through the set with a tied score, however, the Jags would go on a four point run shifting the momentum in their favor. Both Mia McKensey and Freshman Mia Cotton would strike back with a few more kills, but Augusta was already too far ahead, finishing off the Lions 25-20.

Julie de Blanck led the Lions with 18 kills and 6 blocks. Junior Stephanie Hardy tied her season high assists with 44.

Women's volleyball will continue action on the road on Friday, October 5th against Conference Opponent King University.
