MISENHEIMER, N.C. -- The Lion's volleyball team traveled to Belmont Abbey and Pfeiffer this weekend, returning home with both a win and a loss.
"Belmont Abbey was by far the strongest offensive team we have faced all season. They spread the net very well. The girls fought very hard and were able to win some long rallies, but were not able to pull out a set. Playing this caliber of team was a great mid-point of the season match for us. We know where we need to be to compete at the upper tier of this conference. Saturday's match against Pfeiffer took a lot of heart and focus to pull it out. We struggled to get on page offensively, but our blocking helped fuel much needed momentum to earn key points during the match. The fifth set was where the girls played together and with determination to get the win. I was very proud they were able to pull off another five set with this season" Coach Allen had to say about the weekend.
The Emmanuel College Lions fell in three sets to the Belmont Abbey Crusaders (17-25, 18-25, 13-25). Cali Jones led the offense with 9 kills, hitting .333. Ally Kane picked up 10 digs. Libby Bradford recorded 12 assists and 9 digs.
Saturday was a hard fought win for the Lions in five sets against the Pfeiffer Falcons (20-25, 25-18, 25-21, 17-25, 15-11). Andrea Quintanilla put down 8 blocks, while Danielle Sweet and Mercedes Pressley each had 7 blocks of their own. Erica Burnham and Rachel Tolleson had 9 and 8 kills, respectively. Becca Graham recorded 19 assists with 9 digs and Brittany Scarbrough had 14 assists and picked up 11 digs. Ally Kane led the defensive effort with 18 digs.
The squad returns home for a Conference Carolinas game against the Erskine Flying Fleet on Tuesday, October 7th, at 7 PM. Come out and support your lions!
