Gomez Pulls Lions Ahead in Double Overtime

BANNER ELK, N.C. – The Emmanuel College women's soccer team took on Lees-McRae College in Banner Elk, North Carolina in another Conference Carolinas matchup. The Lady Lions defeated the Bobcats in double overtime, 1-0.

In the first half, the Lady Lions had 6 shots on goal. However, Lees-McRae's goalie Hope Sanborn didn't allow Emmanuel to score. The trend continued in the second half, with Emmanuel taking 13 more shots without being able to score.

After a scoreless 90 minutes of regulation play, the game continued into 10 minutes of overtime. Emmanuel's Viki Lederer was able to get a shot on goal one minute into overtime, but Sanborn stopped it with her 14th save of the game.

After 100 minutes without a goal being scored, the ladies continued into double overtime. In the 105th minute, Breanna Gomez was able to score an unassisted goal, her first of the season. Gomez's goal gave the Lady Lions their fourth conference victory, moving them to 4-2 in conference and 6-3 overall.

Next up, the women's soccer team will head to Central, SC to take on Southern Wesleyan University for another conference matchup.
