FRANKLIN SPRINGS, Ga - The women's basketball team played their senior night game against the Lees-McRae Bobcats on Tuesday night. The Lions won their last regular season game, defeating the Bobcats, 78-56.
Play was matched in the first quarter as each team traded points evenly. After ten minutes of play, LMC held a one-point advantage, 9-8.
The Lions were much more productive offensively in the second quarter, taking the lead at the 7:52 mark and staying on top for the rest of the half. Senior Val Pokrovskaya scored 8 points in the last 1:26 of the half, including two made three-pointers. The run gave the Lions a 5 point lead heading into halftime, 30-25.
In the third quarter the Lions went on a 19-2 run in dominating fashion, shutting down the Bobcats on defense. Despite a couple of late points for LMC, the Lions led by 14 points after 30 minutes of play, 55-41.
The Lions continued to control their lead in the fourth quarter as the Bobcats failed to put together a comeback attempt. Emmanuel ended up sealing the senior night victory by 22 points, 78-56.
The Lions shot 42% from the field, 38.5% from three-point range, and 77.5% from the free-throw line.
The Lions were led by junior Breanna Locke, who put up a season-high 35 points and 11 rebounds. Pokrovskaya followed with 14 points and 9 rebounds. Senior Ajah Taylor recorded 10 points and 7 rebounds in her final regular season game as a Lion.
With this win, women's basketball claims the #3 seed and will host the quarterfinal round of the Conference Carolinas Tournament against #6 King University on Tuesday, March 3rd.
