CENTRAL, SC - The Emmanuel College women's basketball team took on the Southern Wesleyan University Warriors on Wednesday night. The Lions defeated the Warriors 66-47, moving their record to 14-6 overall and 11-3 in conference.
The Warriors scored the first two baskets of the game, but the Lions returned ten unanswered points to take an early lead. By the end of the first quarter the Lions were ahead by seven, 15-8. In the second quarter the Lions increased their lead to nine points, 29-20.
In the second half the Lions took their lead into double digits and the Warriors were never able to respond. By the end of the third quarter the Lions led by 20 points, 49-29. The Warriors were only able to outscore the Lions by one in the final ten minutes, giving the Lions the 66-47 victory.
Junior Breanna Locke led the way for the Lions with another double-double that included 12 points and 13 rebounds. Senior Ajah Taylor and junior Brooke Whitaker both had 12 points as well.
The Lions beat the Warriors in every shooting category, going 53.1% from the field, 25% from beyond the arc, and 78.6% from the free throw line.
Next up, women's basketball will host Mount Olive on Saturday, February 1.
