Locke Puts Up 30 Points in Victory Over Barton

FRANKLIN SPRINGS, Ga. - The Emmanuel College women's basketball team defeated conference opponent Barton College, 71-67 on Saturday afternoon. This win brings the Lions record to 13-6 overall, 10-3 in conference.

The Bulldogs started off hot, putting up 6 unanswered points. EC would respond and eventually steal the lead with two minutes remaining in the first quarter, 10-8. Just as it appeared the Lions were finding their rhythm, Barton spawned a 16 point run and found themselves with the largest lead of the game with 6:53 remaining in the second quarter. Facing a 17 point deficit, EC began to fire back. Breanna Locke, Valeriya Pokrovskaya, Sydney Nash, and Brooke Whitaker would all connect from behind the arc to close in on the Bulldogs. Still trailing by 3 with just seconds left on the clock, Mari Jonassen would steal the ball and shoot a final three at the buzzer to tie the game up 37-37 at halftime.

Just three minutes into the third quarter, Breanna Locke secured the lead one last time for Emmanuel with a layup, 41-39. The Bulldogs continued to challenge EC, but the Lions maintained the lead for the rest of the game. Despite the EC lead dwindling down to just 1 point with 24 seconds left on the clock, the Lions were able to capture the win, 71-67.

The Lady Lions shot 36.4% from the floor and 41.2% from the three-point line. EC out-rebounded Barton 54 to 50.

Breanna Locke led the Lions with another double-double, 30 points and 14 rebounds.

The Lady Lions will return to the court on Wednesday, January 29th when they travel to Southern Wesleyan University for another conference matchup.
