FRANKLIN SPRINGS, Ga - Women's basketball continued conference play on Saturday against the Converse College Valkyries. The Lions came out on top by 17 points, 79-62. The victory moved the Lion's record to 11-5 overall and 7-2 in conference.
Emmanuel took control early on, scoring 29 points in the first quarter to lead by 9. The Lions continued to control the game in the second quarter, entering halftime with a 16 point lead, 49-33.
The Lions dominated the third quarter as well, finishing the first 30 minutes of play with a 30 point lead, 73-43. The Valkyries held Emmanuel to only 6 points in the final quarter, scoring 19 of their own. However, it only put a dent in the Lion's lead as they still won by 17, 79-62.
The Lions were led by junior Breanna Locke, who had her most dominate performance of the season with 31 points and 12 rebounds to log another double-double. Sophomore Jazmin Allen followed with 15 points.
Emmanuel lost the turnover battle, giving up 16 and forcing 14 from the Valkyries. However, the Lions led in nearly every other stat category, shooting 42.9% from the field and 34.8% from beyond the arc. The Valkyries converted 30.4% from the field and 17.4% from beyond the arc.
Next up, women's basketball will take on Belmont Abbey College on Monday, January 20.
