BANNER ELK, NC - The women's basketball team continued conference play on Wednesday night by taking on the Lees-McRae Bobcats. The Lions dropped to 10-5 overall and 7-2 in conference with their 63-52 loss.
The game started off close, but Emmanuel managed to gain a five point lead by the end of the first quarter. Lee's-McRae answered in the second quarter by outscoring the Lions by 5, sending the game into halftime tied, 30-30.
The score remained close throughout the third quarter as neither team could pull ahead by more than four points. The Bobcats had a one point advantage heading into the final quarter, 40-39.
Emmanuel took the lead in the fourth quarter, but the game remained close as the clock wound down. However, with under three minutes to play the Bobcats took control and went on an 11-1 run. Emmanuel couldn't respond and ended up losing by 11, 63-52.
The Lions converted 31.6% of field goals and 26.9% of three point attempts. The Bobcats beat them in both categories, shooting 42.1% from the field and 47.4% from beyond the arc. Both teams had 13 turnovers.
Next up, women's basketball will take on Converse College on Saturday, January 18.
