DUE WEST, S.C. - The Emmanuel College women's basketball team remains undefeated in Conference Carolinas play after defeating the Erskine College Flying Fleet, 85-74, for their 7th conference win.
The game began with the Lions getting off to a slow start. Erskine dominated the first couple minutes of the game and led by eight points early on. However, three pointers converted by juniors Breanna Locke and Morgan Simmons brought the Lions back into the game before the Flying Fleet could get comfortable. Emmanuel managed to capture the lead late in the first quarter and never looked back.
Emmanuel went into halftime leading 37-28 and never allowed Erskine to recapture the lead throughout the rest of the evening.
Despite the Flying Fleet outscoring the Lions in the fourth quarter, Emmanuel managed to win by 11, 85-74.
The Lions were led by last weeks Conference Carolinas women's basketball player of the week, Breanna Locke. Locke scored 25 points and had 7 rebounds. Morgan Simmons also put on an impressive performance for the Lions, scoring 20 points and converting 5/7 three point attempts.
The Lions outperformed the Flying Fleet in every shooting category, including an impressive 58.3% of three pointers made. Emmanuel did lose the turnover battle, giving up 16 while only forcing 14 from the Flying Fleet.
Next up, the ladies will attempt to maintain their win streak against conference opponent Limestone University on Saturday, January 11th.
