HONOLULU, HI. - The Emmanuel College men's volleyball team continued action at the Raising Cane's Rainbow Warrior Classic hosted by the University of Hawaii on Friday. After falling to the #1 host school the previous day, the Lions squared off against Division 1 Grand Canyon University.
EC took an early lead in the opening set thanks to a duo of kills from Seniors Don Thompson and Aleksa Lakic. A Grand Canyon four point run followed, making the EC lead short lived. GCU continued to fire away, posting a .419 hitting percentage and cruising to an easy 25-11 first set victory.
The Antelopes carried the momentum over into the second set. While EC improved their hitting, a dominant GCU offense kept the Antelopes in the lead for the entire set. GCU took set number two 25-16.
EC finished off the night with their best performance in set number three. An early exchange put the Antelopes ahead 7-4 before a service error sparked a four point run for the Lions. EC's Jayden Young would deliver an ace from the service line before back to back attack errors from GCU put the Lions ahead 8-7. Several lead changes followed before the Lions found themselves ahead 22-21. Despite their best efforts, EC would fall short due to a flurry of kills and aces from Grand Canyon, 25-22.
EC finished the night with a .08 hitting percentage compared to a staggering .405 from the Antelopes. Don Thompson led the Lions with 10 kills.
Next up, the Lions will wrap up the Raising Cane's Rainbow Warrior Classic with a match against Harvard University on Saturday at 4pm HT (9pm EST).
