EC drops game to Clayton State

Morrow, GA- The Emmanuel College Soccer lions traveled to take on Clayton State University of the Peach Belt Conference on Monday night.

Both teams faced tough conditions as the majority of the field was cut up from recent weather. The Lions did not see much of the ball in the first half but defended very well and when their chance came they took it. As the ball was partially cleared by the Lakers defense Daniel Bowling collected the second ball and played a delightful through ball to Mark Shrosbree, who's header lobbed over the oncoming goalkeeper to put the Lions 1-0 up in the 39th minute. The Lions would go into the half with the lead.

The Lions started the second half well as they continued to frustrate the Lakers attack. However that changed in the 55th minute when Clayton State were awarded a penalty and Avery Shepard stepped up and tied the game. The Lakers took the lead in the 69th minute when Bilal Nakhli found the net. The Lakers went further ahead in the 75th minute when Avery Shepard netted his second of the game. The scoring was ended in the 86th minute when Aleksi Tuominen added a fourth for Clayton State. The game ended 4-1 and the hard work by the Lions was outdone by 30 minutes of chaos in the second half.

The defeat moves the Lions to 3-4-2

The soccer Lions are in action again on Saturday as they take on Lees-McRae at home with kick-off scheduled for 4pm.
