Franklin Springs, GA- The Emmanuel College soccer lions faced off against the flying fleet of Erskine College on Saturday. Because of incoming rain the kick-off was moved forward to try and get as much of that game in as possible.
Although with the rainfall the previous night and continuous down pours during the game conditions to play were very difficult. The Lions created several goal scoring opportunities in the first half as they made the most of the conditions, but were unable to find the net. And it was Erskine who took the lead in the 12th minute when Tales Domingues' deflected shot found the back of the net. The Lions would go into the half trailing 1-0.
Emmanuel dominated the play in the second half as they pushed for the equalizing goal. And It looked as though time was running out, until Morgan Anders picked up the ball and drove towards the touchline where he was fouled by the Erskine defender. The referee pointed to the spot and captain Mark Shrosbree stepped up to calmly tie the game at 1-1 in the 87th minute.
The game was ended as a tie after the 90 minutes of play as the referees made the decision that the conditions were unplayable.
The tie moves the Lions to 3-3-2 and 2-2-2 in conference play
The soccer Lions are on the road again on Monday night as they take on Clayton State University with kick-off scheduled for 6pm.
