GAFFNEY, S.C.- The Emmanuel Soccer Lions went into the game with Limestone on the back of an excellent performance, and Coach Borchers urged his players build on the previous performance. However, it was not to be as the Lions were turned over quite comfortably in the end by the nationally ranked Limestone College.
The Lions started the game very poorly and it wasn't long until Limestone got the opening goal though Gui Machado in the fifth minute. They added a second ten minutes later through Sam Orritt. The Saints added a third before half time through William Picoux.
With the Lions trailing 3-0 at half time Coach Borchers decided to make a few changes and give some of the younger player's valuable minutes on the field. They did not hesitate in grabbing their chances as the Lions improved greatly in the second half.
However, the young Lions could not stop a very good Limestone team from adding two more goals in the second half through Sam Hibbert and Sam Orritt. Emmanuel showed great character to continue fighting to the end and their hard work paid off in the 88th minute when Andrew Tanner netted his first goal of the year with a tremendous individual effort. The game would finish 5-1 to the Saints.
The Lions will hope to bounce back as they take on Pfeiffer University at home on Saturday with kick-off slated for 7pm.
