Men’s Lacrosse Tops Barton In Conference Opener

DACULA, Ga. - The Emmanuel College men's lacrosse team defeated conference opponent Barton College 14-10 on Thursday afternoon. This win brings the Lions record to 3-4 overall, 1-0 in conference.

The teams battled for the lead in the opening 15 minutes. EC started off with two goals from Alex Stull and Justin Parker before the Bulldogs fired back with two goals of their own. Stull would then connect with another goal before a three point run from Barton pulled them ahead 5-3. Bakari Neely answered for the Lions with under two minutes remaining in the quarter to help EC close in. The Lions then capitalized on a man-up opportunity when Matthew Mitchell sank a shot to tie the score at 5-5. Stull's third goal of the game came with just 18 seconds remaining in the period to pull EC ahead 6-5.
After gaining the lead late in the first period, the Lions never looked back. EC continued with 3 more unanswered goals in the second quarter to propel them to a 9-5 lead. Allan Velasquez, Matthew Mitchell, and Lance Olson were the scorers. The Bulldogs finally connected with five minutes remaining in the half, cutting Emmanuel's lead to 9-6.
EC outscored Barton 4-1. Ethan Perez notched his first goal of the game 44 seconds into the third period. Another man-up opportunity for the Lions helped Justin Parker deliver his second goal of the game. Barton would break up the string of Lion points with a goal on their own man-up opportunity at 3:29. Shamaz Durrant would then pick up the Lions 12th goal on another man-up opportunity before Lance Olson's goal closed out the third period, 13-7.
The Bulldogs responded in the final period with 3 straight goals to cut the Lions lead to 13-10. Despite their late run, Barton was unable to overcome the gap the Lions created. Shamaz Durrant recorded one last goal for EC to secure the victory, 14-10.
Alex Stull led the Lions with 3 goals and 2 assists. Ethan Brundage recorded 7 saves and allowed 6 goals in the first half. Luke Harris recorded 4 saves while allowing 4 goals in the second half. 
Next up, the Lions will travel to Palm Beach Atlantic on Wednesday, March 11th.
