BELMONT, N.C. - The Emmanuel College men's basketball team was narrowly defeated by Belmont Abbey, 85-80 on Wednesday night. This loss brings the Lions record to 16-11 overall, 13-6 in conference.
The teams exchanged the lead 11 times throughout the night, putting up similar performances with 38 rebounds and 17 turnovers. One of the differences came down to shooting, with the Crusaders converting 45.8% of their shots, including 36.8% from beyond the arc. The Lions trailed behind with a 39.7% field goal percentage including 34.8% from the three-point line.
EC held the lead at 71-70 with under four minutes left in the game after a three-pointer from Tyonn Stuckey. The Crusaders rallied back with a five point run to steal the lead one last time. As the clock dwindled down, the Lions were forced to foul. The Crusaders would convert a few more free throws to capture the victory 85-80.
Next up, the Lions wrap up their regular season schedule at home against Lees-McRae on Tuesday, February 25th at 7:30pm.
