FRANKLIN SPRINGS, Ga - Men's basketball faced the Limestone College Saints in their penultimate regular season home game on Saturday. The Lions topped the Saints by 9 points, 91-82, moving their record to 16-10 overall and 13-5 in conference.
Sophomore Michael Wright started the game for the Lions by sinking back-to-back three-pointers. The Saints could never fully answer as the Lions held the lead for all 39 minutes after Wright's three-point field goals. By the end of the first half, Emmanuel led by 8 points, 44-36.
The Saints rallied in the second half, pulling within two points of the Lions. However, with 12 minutes remaining Emmanuel went on a 16-2 run. The Lions held a double-digit lead for the majority of the last ten minutes. The Saints only pulled back within 9 points after a buzzer-beating three-pointer, resulting in a 9 point victory for Emmanuel, 91-82.
Freshman KJ Jones followed Wednesday's career high performance with another impressive showing, leading the Lions with 22 points. Junior Brandon Simpson followed with 16 points and 7 rebounds.
The Lions shot 48.5% from the field, 38.5% from three-point range, and 93.8% from the line. The Saints shot 55.8% from the field, 42.9% from three-point range, and 88.2% from the line. Despite getting outshot by the Saints, the Lions snagged 10 more rebounds, with 35 against the Saint's 25. The Lions also won the turnover battle, giving up 12 while forcing 15.
Next up, men's basketball will take on the Belmont Abbey Crusaders on Wednesday, February 19.
