Men's Basketball Edged Out By Lees-McRae, 103-98
BANNER ELK, N.C. - The men's basketball team took on Lee's-McRae on Wednesday evening. The Lions fell to the Bobcats 103-98, moving their record to 9-8 overall and 6-3 in conference.
The Bobcats took control early on, gaining a 12 point lead over the first 12 minutes of play. However, the Lions surged back into the game in the last 7 minutes of the first half, only trailing by two when the clock hit zero, 44-42.
In the second half, the Lions stayed within reach but were never able to reclaim the lead. Despite being productive offensively, they couldn't hold off the Bobcats on the other side of the court. This culminated in a high scoring game, with the Lions losing 103-98.
The Lions were led by senior Emerson McClung, who put up 24 points, his highest this season. Freshman KJ Jones also had his highest scoring performance of the season with 23.
The Lions shot 42.4% from the field and 32.3% from three point range. The Bobcats beat them in both categories, making 60% of shots from the field and 42.9% from beyond the ark. However, Emmanuel did win the turnover battle with 16, while Lees-McRae gave up 18.
Next up, men's basketball will continue conference play against Belmont Abbey on Saturday, January 18.
