GAFFNEY, S.C. - The Emmanuel College men's basketball team defeated conference opponent Limestone College 71-68 on Saturday night. This win brings the Lions record to 9-7 overall, 6-2 in conference.
The Saints put up impressive numbers on the night, shooting 50% from the field including 48.1% from behind the arc. Limestone also out-rebounded the Lions 36-33. Despite their solid numbers, EC had a strong performance of their own. The Lions forced twice as many turnovers as their opponent and converted 28 points off of turnovers.
With 9 ties and 7 lead changes throughout the game, EC found themselves trailing 67-68 in the final minute of play. A Limestone foul put KJ Jones II on the free-throw line and the Freshman guard pulled EC ahead 70-68 after sinking all three attempts. With 1 second left on the clock, Senior Emerson McClung would add one more point to the final score, giving EC the 71-68 victory.
Junior Brandon Simpson led the Lions with his second double-double of the season putting up 23 points and 10 rebounds.
Next up, the Lions take on conference opponent Lees-McRae on Wednesday, January 15th on the road.
