FRANKLIN SPRINGS, Ga. - The Emmanuel College women's volleyball team showed another dominant performance over a Conference Carolinas opponent on Saturday afternoon in the Shaw Athletic Center. Against North Greenville University, the Lions won in three quick sets; 25-17, 25-20, 25-21.
The first set started with a kill from Senior Julie de Blanck before the Crusaders fired back. Ahead at 4-3, two consecutive attack errors from the lions gave the Crusaders the lead. The teams continued to exchange leads before the Lions finally got in their rhythm. Junior Gabby Ghassedi stepped up to the service line and gave Emmanuel their first run of the night. With a 5 point lead, the lions never looked back.
The Lions commanded set number two, taking the lead immediately and never giving it up. With set point within grasp, Junior setter Stephanie Hardy dumped on an unexpecting Crusaders defense for the win.
The final set started with a relatively lackadaisical performance from the Lions. The Crusaders were unchallenged at the net and attained their biggest lead of the night at 7-3. North Greenville continued putting pressure on the Lions until Emmanuel finally dug out of their deficit and tied the set at 16-16. A kill from Junior Mia McKensey gave the Lions the lead. The Crusaders would score one more time before Emmanuel unleashed a flurry of kills and aces during their 6 point run, bringing the match score to 24-17. In one last valiant effort to hold on, the Crusaders scored 4 more unanswered points. The Lions would call a timeout before De Blanck put the ball away one last time to take the win.
The Lions are now 9-6 overall and 4-0 in conference play. Women's volleyball will continue conference play next weekend as they take on Belmont Abbey on Friday and Lees-McRae on Saturday at home.
