GREENEVILLE, Tn. - Lions volleyball went 1-1 on Friday at the South Atlantic Conference regional crossover tournament.
Against Mars Hill:
The first match of the night saw Emmanuel against Mars Hill University where they beat out the opposing Lions in four sets.
The Lions were led offensively by Senior Julie de Blanck with another 15 kills to tie her season high. Junior Stephanie Hardy had an impressive night at the net sneaking in 8 kills from the setters position while tallying 37 assists. Defensively, Junior Aysha Avery registered 32 digs, one of her top 5 career performances at Emmanuel.
The opening set stayed close with several errors coming from each team. With a 1 point deficit at 14-13, Mars Hill added 6 more points to the board to take a demanding lead in the final stretch. The Lions were unable to dig themselves out of the hole and lost set one 19-25.
Set two opened up with a 4 point run for the Lions, who were smooth sailing for the rest of the night. Emmanuel ended the set with the largest lead of the night at 25-17.
In the third set, Setter Stephanie Hardy added 3 more dumps to her total of 8 for the night, resulting in a career high kills.
Emmanuel finished off the opposing Lions 25-23, 25-17.
In their second match of the night Emmanuel was pitted against a strong Tusculum University. On the stat sheet the Lions fell short in kills and hitting percentage, and were dominated in blocking 17 to 8. The Pioneers strong presence at the net proved too much for the Lions who managed to take only 1 set.
Emmanuel fell with a final score of 22-25, 25-19, 21-25, 25-17.
Next up for the Lions are Carson-Newman and Lincoln Memorial on Saturday, Sept. 1 at 2pm and 4pm as they continue their slew of Tennessee matches.
