MURFREESBORO, N.C.--- The Emmanuel Collage women's lacrosse team improved to 9-10 on the season after holding off Chowan University 11-8 on Sunday afternoon.
Megan Hart (Acworth, GA/North Paulding) led all players in the contest with five goals. Allie Brock(Newnan, GA/Northgate) and Alyssa Austin added two goals apiece for the Lions whileHaley Larson (Loxahatchee, FL/Seminole Ridge) and Savannah Gratz (Ball Ground, GA/North Forsyth) each added a score.
With the score tied 2-2 at the 26:10 mark, the Lions scored four unanswered goals (three scored by Hart), to pull away 6-2. Chowan broke the scoring drought for the Hawks at the 8:21 mark make the score 6-4 with 7:24 remaining before halftime. Another score by Hart for the Lions gave Emmanuel a 7-4 lead at the end of the first half.
Holding on to a 9-8 lead with 8:33 on the clock, Brock added a score for Emmanuel and Larson found the back of the net with 1:03 remaining in the game to secure the 11-8 win for the Lions.
The Lions finish the season 9-10, ranked #10 in the NWLL and are awaiting an opportunity for an at-large bid to the National Tournament.
It has been a year of firsts for the Lions. Hart finished the season with a team-best 55 goals, 57 draw controls, 61 groundballs and 28 caused turnovers, all program season-bests. Gratz led the Lions with 71 points (53 goals, 18 assists). Tyler Rediger (Hoschton, GA/Mill Creek) recorded 33 assists in her debut season and is now the all-time program leader. Danielle Roach (Sugar Hill, GA/North Gwinnett) recorded 227 saves for a .46 save percentage this season which are program bests. The Lions also saw program season-bests with 253 goals and 102 assists.
