Winona Lake, I.N.- The Emmanuel Women's Basketball Team won both rounds of the NCCAA National Tournament to go on and play Greenville College in the final round for the championship win. The Lady Lions played well at the tournament, but finished 2nd with their final loss against Greenville. The final score of the game was 48-67. The top scorers of tonight's game were Elise Coberly and Timia Reynolds.
Greenville College had the ball at tip-off, but did not score in their first possession. Timia Reynolds scored the first two points for the game. Elise Coberly posted up her first 3-pointer of the game followed by a layup from Timia Reynolds. Greenville College took away scoring to be up 7-14. Timia Reynolds put up a layup followed by a layup from Mikayla Trombley. The lady Lions were now trailing by six, 11-17. Mikayla Trombley was fouled and made one of her shots. After the first quarter, the Lady Lions are down 12-19.
The second quarter started off with a shot clock violation by Greenville and gave the ladies possession. Elise Coberly snagged an offensive rebound to put up two points. Mikayla Trombley put up a layup and was fouled. She made both of her shots to add two more points to the board. The score was now 17-23. Genesis Jones stole the ball from Greenville, but no shot was made. The ladies stepped up their defense, but Elise Coberly found a way to put up two points. She was fouled and made her free throw. Elise Coberly stole the ball from Greenville and Timia Reynolds put up two points. And just like that, the ladies were back in the game. Lochlain Corliss put up her second 3-pointer. Elise Coberly was fouled getting an offensive rebound and she would shoot two shots. She made both of her free throws for her tenth point of the half. The ladies are going into half-time trailing 27-35.
The third quarter started with the ball in Emmanuel's hands. Mikayla Trombley put up the first two points of the quarter. The ladies managed to keep the ball on their side ending in a layup from Elise Coberly. Avery Scarbrough managed to score her first 2-points of the game. Lady Lions were down 35-46. Mikayla Trombley shot her first 3-pointer of the game. The Lady Lions played better defense, but could not pull off much scoring this quarter due to Greenville's full court press. The third quarter ended with a final score of 38-49.
Elise Coberly started out the last quarter of the game with a solid 3-pointer. Avery Scarbrough completed a jump shot. Lady Lions are still dealing with the full court press that Greenville was giving them. Greenville College did not score during the fourth quarter either, but Lady Lions stayed down 43-54. Greenville College took scoring away and led the ladies 46-60. Timia Reynolds broke away from the traffic and scored two points. After the game at a standstill, the game ended with a loss for the ladies with a final score of 48-67.
