Winona Lake, I.N.- The Emmanuel Women's Basketball Team passed the first round of the National Championship and moved on to the Semi-Finals. The ladies played against Mid-America Christian University and defeated them 75-74. The top scorers of tonight's game were Elise Coberly, with 21-points, and Timia Reynolds, with 18-points.
Avery Scarbrough started off the first quarter of the game with two points to tie the game 2-2. Timia Reynolds was on fire the first quarter starting out with a 3-pointer. Mikayla Trombley made a jump shot followed by three shots from Timia Reynolds. The ladies were in front 16-8 with a 3-pointer from Elise Coberly. Timia Reynolds posted up a jump shot bringing the ladies in front by 10-points. Elise Coberly put up her second 3-pointer with an assist by Timia Reynolds. With 25 seconds left in the quarter, Timia Reynolds scored her thirteenth point with a jump shot to end the first quarter. The ladies went into the second quarter ahead 29-18.
Timia Reynolds put up a jump shot to start the second quarter followed by a jump shot from Elise Coberly. Genesis Jones entered the game and added a free throw to the board. Avery Scarbrough made a jump shot followed by a 3-pointer from Mikayla Trombley, which would be her first of the game. Mid-America tried to come back but Elise Coberly scored a jump shot to push the ladies back in front 41-31. Jenesai Mohommad ended the second quarter with her first 3-pointer of the game. The ladies went into half-time up 44-33.
Coming out from half-time the ladies were expected to keep their defense up and maintain their lead. Elise Coberly made a jump shot to start the scoring for the ladies. Lochalin Corliss fired up a 3-pointer, which brought the ladies in front 49-36. Mikayla Trombley put up her second 3-pointer of the game. The ladies kept their scoring up during the third quarter. Elise Coberly made a jump shot and then snagged a defensive rebound allowing Avery Scarbrough to make a jump shot. Timia Reynolds stole the ball from Mid-America allowing Elise Coberly to put up a 3-pointer. Lady Lions had a nice lead and Mid-America started handing out fouls. Between Mikayla Trombley, Elise Coberly, and Lochlain Corliss six free throws were made. This would end the third quarter with the ladies up by 18-points, 68-50.
The ladies had a substantial lead going into the fourth and were not expecting Mid-America to make a comeback like they did. Lochlain Corliss scored the first two points for the ladies off a steal by Timia Reynolds. Mid-America kept the ladies from scoring how they had been in the previous quarters, but Avery Scarbrough managed to put up a jump shot. The ladies defense did not hold up against Mid-America shooting and they tied the game up 74-74 with 35 seconds left on the clock. Timia Reynold was fouled with 13 seconds left and missed her first free throw. She needed to make this last free throw and she did. Mid-America missed their last shot and that was the game. The Lady Lions ran on to the court victorious in the semi-finals with a final score of 75-74.
The Lady Lions will now play in the National Championship for the NCCAA on Saturday, March 18th at 5:00 P.M.
