Franklin Springs, GA – The Emmanuel College Tennis Team stepped on the home courts one last time this season to honor the seniors Lucas Pereira and Abi Muesse.
The Lions were motivated to get a last win in regular season today and that was seem in doubles. With a combination of good returns and an efficient serve when needed, the duo composed of Jarry/Sasaki had no major issues today to quickly dispatch their foes on court #2. The scenario was a little different on court #1 with Romero/Alcacer, who had a great start of a match with a 4-1 lead before their opponents reversed the situation to get ahead. After getting their mindset back in the game again, the Lions were able to clinch a second point by 8-6. Lastly, on court #3, Canadas and Pereira were just too efficient in what they were doing, either from the baseline or at the net and they never had any issues throughout the match with a convincing 8-4 win.
In singles, the story was not much different on courts #4-6 with EC dominating everything. The sophomore Lucas Sasaki was the first one to grab the victory today by just waiting for his opponent to self-destruct to earn a 6-0 6-2 win. The clincher came from the Freshman, Tom Jarry, who played a solid game, especially from the baseline by moving his opponent from side to side for a 6-1 6-3 win. Emmanuel still grabbed a pair of extra victories today; on court #6, the Junior Enrique Alcacer was on cruise control with his game and with a combo of angles and dropshots, he paved his way for a 6-0 6-1 in favor of the home team. The Sophomore, Jorge Canadas, was also on point today and without wasting much energy he also only dropped one game in two sets, 6-0 6-1, to close the day for EC.
This match marked the last one for the only senior of the Emmanuel Men's Tennis Team this year, Lucas Pereira. The Brazilian native has helped the program since 2015 and he also served as team captain this season. Abi Muesse will also say her farewells to the home courts as she is serving her last year here at EC. The Georgia resident transferred to Emmanuel after her first year of enrolment at Georgia Gwinnett College and helped the Lady Lions with the rebuilt of the program. The Emmanuel Women's Tennis Team has finished at the Top of the Conference Carolinas charts for the past two seasons. Head Coach, Kethan Darbar, commented, "it was a different day for me to be honest. Both Abi and Lucas have been here since the beginning and they helped me rebuilding the program and placing them where it can be. Lucas was the first player I recruited at EC and we have been through a lot together, from not being able to play at the home courts to being able to compete equally against any school we scheduled this season. Abi signed with us to play for a team who only had one girl on the roster. She believed that we could get somewhere and made an impact in the program since her first day here at Emmanuel. Abi is an exemplary student, who will be attending grad school after finishing her studies here. Both players will be deeply missed by their teammates and especially, by me. They are incredible individuals who I had the honor to be around with on daily basis, on good and bad days. They both have a great mindset and a bright future ahead of them and I cannot wait to see how far they can go in life! I pray and wish them only the best!"
Coming up next, Emmanuel will travel to the NCCAA National Tournament in Mobile, Alabama. The first match is scheduled for Tuesday @ 8:30!
