Men’s Soccer Overcomes Clayton State in Overtime

FRANKLIN SPRINGS, Ga. - The Emmanuel College men's soccer team took on Clayton State University on Wednesday night for the third time in program history. After ninety minutes of play, the match was forced into overtime with the Lions caming out on top 2-1.

The match was closely balanced with Emmanuel's 17 shots compared to the Lakers 21.

How it happened:

Nearly seventeen minutes into the game, Senior Blair Springhall put the ball past the keeper on the right side off of an assist from Senior Channing Park. The one-point lead would be short lived as the Lakers' Kwaku Dwamena would fire in a shot off a header from Tim Neusesser, just over a minute later. The remaining seventy-two minutes of play crept by without another goal.

Heading into overtime, the Lakers struck first with a shot that went wide right. Finally, the Lions got their opportunity when Freshman Luke Jones crossed a ball from center field to the left side, allowing Freshman Will Fraser-Gray to play it into the right corner. Gray's second season goal earned the Lions their first overtime victory of the season.

The Lions will continue action on Saturday against Chowan for their final regular season home game at 2:30pm.
