COLUMBIA, SC – The Emmanuel Men's Basketball team traveled to Columbia International University to compete in the NCCAA South Region Tournament and will head to the finals after a win against Piedmont International, 73-92.
Emerson McClung started off the first half going 2-2 with free throws. Following the fouls, Austin Greene assisted Kendrick Colvin with a dunk over Piedmont. The Lions quickly had a 0-7 lead until Piedmont broke the silence on their side of the court. Elijah Robinson and Kendrick Colvin both dunked once more, totaling three dunks in the first half. Colton Collins made a few shots and a few assists. Derek Vandiver fired off a few 3-pointers as he entered the game off the bench. The Lions had a 16-point lead over Piedmont, but ended the first half down 8-points, 34-42. Austin Samuel led the Lions into halftime with a layup off a steal.
Elijah Robinson was fouled to start the second half and would end up 11-11 from the line. The Lions were soon up by thirteen with fifteen minutes left in the game. Derek Vandiver fired off consecutive 3-pointers totaling 15-points for the game. The Lions held onto their defense through the second half gaining a twenty-point lead after a smooth dunk by Kendrick Colvin. Tavish Reynolds entered the game with a minute left and increased the lead for the Lions scoring the final layup of the Region Semi-Final performance. The Lions defeated Piedmont International with a 73-92 victory.
The Lions will play Warner College in the NCCAA Region Championship on Friday, March 9th at 4:00 PM. This game will be hosted at Columbia International University.
