FRANKLIN SPRINGS, GA. - This weeks Athletes of the Week are Daniel Gooden of Baseball and Alex Sobers of Men's Swimming.
Daniel Gooden is a Senior from Griffin, Georgia. As a left handed pitcher and designated hitter, Gooden has had some impressive performances this year. In the last three games, Gooden has a .455 batting average, a .600 on-base percentage, and 12 RBI's. Some record setting performances he has had includes 3 home runs in one game, 2 grand slams in one game, 12 total bases and 10 RBI's in one game.
Alex Sobers is a Sophomore from Bridgetown, Barbados. Sobers has made Athlete of the Week several times over his two year tenure at Emmanuel. Most recently Sobers competed in the Commonwealth Games in Gold Coast, Australia. The Commonwealth Games have become a modern sporting spectacular that now includes 71 nations and over 6,000 athletes. Sobers represented his home country of Barbados at the games, competing in 3 events. In the 200 LCM freestyle, Sobers finished with a personal best 1:51.87 (finished 20th overall) and setting the Barbados national record. In the 100 LCM freestyle, Sobers finished with a personal best 51.12 (finished 29th overall). In the 50 LCM freestyle, Sobers finished with a personal best 23.75 (finished 28th overall).
